Vicki Chamberlain knows prescription eyewear. She graduated from high school in June 1978 and started working in a lab that made glasses that October. Vicki enjoyed the trade so much that she decided to work for an optician and became an apprentice under Billy Hodges, under whose leadership she learned the trade, took the necessary tests, and became licensed. She worked for Mr. Hodges for seventeen years, and then began her own business when he passed away.
Vicki met her husband in 1981 (over thirty years later and they are still married) and together they have one song, whose wife Heather apprenticed under Vicki and is now a licensed optician as well. Vicki opened 20/20 Vision Center on St. James Avenue in March 2000.
Vicki loves providing people with what they need, “People who need glasses have to wear these glasses every single day.” She also enjoys getting to know her clients and finds working with the public very satisfying.
“The benefit of coming to us for your eyewear needs,” says Vicki, “is experience. We have three opticians on staff and going to places where turnover is high, you may be seeing someone completely different each time you visit. Those places do not trains their staff as specifically as our office does. We pride ourselves in knowing what to do and how to do it, because we are all capable of helping each individual with their specific needs. Our service is exceptional. We know our customers, and they know when they return they will be seeing us.”
20/20 Vision Center offers a large selection of women and men’s frames, as well as children and even babies, including theatrical and colored contact lenses. Most insurance plans are accepted, including Medicaid, and they offer discounts to customers who do not have insurance benefits. Vicki and her staff are sensitive to budget restrictions and are able to repair broken glasses, solder, and perform other minor repairs onsite, where larger chain stores may not offer onsite repair. With over thirty years of experience, you can trust Vicki for all of your vision needs.
